大三巴牌坊是天主之母教堂（即圣保禄教堂）正面前壁的遗址。圣保禄教堂创建于1580年。1595和1601年先后两次失火，1835年一场大火更将教堂全部烧毁，仅剩下正面前壁及教堂前的石阶。自此，这边成为世界闻名的圣保禄教堂遗址。
Ruins of St. Paul's
Refer to the Church of Master Dei Built in 1602-1640, and the ruins of St. Paul's College, destroyed by fire in 1835. Since then the remaining facade and the front steps became the World's famous ruins.
